After Thirty, A Body Has A Mind Of Its Own

Yes...I quoted Bette Midler.  All of my gay friends will be proud, I guess she is one of their idols...

So here it is, the third month of 2012 and this is my second post about age.  For 34 years I have lived by the saying, "Age is only a number.", but for some reason I'm feeling older more and more.  I have been trying to pinpoint what it might be making feel like this, I thought it might have something to do with stress, maybe something to do with three boys, maybe it is the economy, then it hit me yesterday....it's my purchases these days.

I haven't bought things I have wanted, I've bought things I've needed.  The last purchased put the final nail in the coffin (no pun intended).  I bought a pill sorter.  You know the kind, 7 little flip top compartments for you to put your pills....so you don't forget to take them that day.

I should consider myself lucky though, I take pills that I choose to take, multivitamins, fish oil, vitamin D, and so on.  I don't have any prescriptions but the two pills that make me feel old are the pain relievers I take every morning, usually because "I slept wrong" (damn it mom and dad!).

I actually did research on the type of pill sorter I needed.  Did you know they come in different sizes?  I didn't.  Did you know they can lock?  I didn't.  Did you know that they are on an end cap at CVS right by the pharmacy?  I didn't.  I wandered all over the damn store looking for them, I thought they would be next to the vitamins, I was wrong.  I tried the pain reliever section next, negative.  I went up and down every aisle and finally had to ask an employee.  I know it sounds silly, but there was only one other thing I had a hard time asking a CVS employee about and it wasn't condoms, I had no problem asking fore them, it just showed I was getting some.  The only other product I ever had a problem asking for was...maxi-pads or padimus maximus and it wasn't for a girlfriend or even my wife, they were for me....by doctor orders...it was pretty bad...  That is a story over several beers and at another time.

There are some other items I have purchased not because I wanted to, but because I needed to.  I swore I would never use an air mattress for camping.  I love to camp, I camp in a tent, those who use a trailer are not camping...another rant for another time.  Again as I got older I realized I can't sleep on the ground anymore and get a decent nights sleep, so I purchased an air mattress, on clearance of course.

That's another thing, not only am I purchasing different items but I am buying them differently.  I am turning into the "old person looking for clearance items on sale".  I suppose it's always a good thing to save money, yeah that's it, that's what I will tell myself.

Oh well, there is always a bright side to everything at least I don't have a pill sorter like this.....yet.

  1. I hear ya! I have the air mattress, the pill sorter and even have a close relationship with my physical therapist. Most of my friends are pushing 50 so I get NO sympathy! It's good to know I'm not alone!
